Family & Matrimonial

Twelve years of practice in this area, two-thirds of it on the side of the petitioner. Matters are taken on a written brief; outcomes are described in the same plain English the court would use.

i.The kinds of matters covered

  • 01Petitions for divorce, judicial separation, and annulment.
  • 02Custody, care and control, and access — contested and uncontested.
  • 03Maintenance for spouse and child; variation applications.
  • 04Division of matrimonial assets, including jointly-titled property.
  • 05Protection orders under the Domestic Violence Act 1994.
  • 06Cross-jurisdictional matters where one party is resident abroad.

ii.How the work proceeds

  1. 01.A written enquiryA paragraph by email is enough. Initial response within five working days.
  2. 02.First meetingOne hour, in chambers or by video. Confidential. No fee for the first half-hour where the matter is unlikely to proceed.
  3. 03.Engagement letterScope, fee basis, and an estimated timeline in writing before any work begins.
  4. 04.Conduct of matterMonthly written updates as a minimum; a final statement on disposal.

iii.On fees

Fee basis is hourly for advisory work and fixed for uncontested matters. A detailed schedule is provided in the engagement letter; nothing is opaque.
