Civil & Commercial Litigation
A selective practice. I take on matters where the dispute is substantive and the position defensible; I decline matters that should be settled instead.
i.The kinds of matters covered
- 01Contractual disputes — breach, rescission, specific performance.
- 02Recovery actions and the enforcement of judgements.
- 03Commercial tenancy disputes, including possession and quiet enjoyment.
- 04Partnership and shareholder disputes in closely-held companies.
- 05Civil claims arising from family-law disposals.
ii.How the work proceeds
- 01.A written enquiryPlease include the contract or correspondence at issue; a paragraph of context.
- 02.Written assessmentI do not accept civil instructions without an initial written assessment. It is honest about prospects.
- 03.Engagement letterScope, fee basis, and a procedural timeline in writing before any work begins.
- 04.Conduct of matterMonthly written updates; a settlement view at every procedural stage.
iii.On fees
Hourly, against a published rate. A retainer is typical for matters likely to exceed three months. Court disbursements at cost.
